Division 1: Gloucestershire, Sussex and Yorkshire posted wins in the NatWest Pro40 League.

William Porterfield blasted a magnificent 97 not out off just 76 balls (12 fours, 3 sixes) as Gloucestershire chased down a daunting 192-run set to them by Essex. New Zealand’s James Franklin was the other batting star for the winners, with a knock of 60 off 30 balls (6 furs, 3 sixes).

Essex scored 191/5 off 18 overs in the rain-reduced match, with Dutchman Ryan ten Doeschate blasting 88 off 43 balls (5 fours, 6 sixes). Grant Flower added 34 off 18 balls.

In reply, Porterfield went ballistic, and with Franklin on the other end, added 135 runs they reached the target in 17.3 overs.

Sussex were stretched by Hampshire, managing to post a four-run win. Batting first, Sussex scored 224/9 in 40 overs, with decent contributions from the top and middle-order.

In reply, Hampshire recovered from a disastrous beginning, and being 71/5 at one stage, to get to 220/8 before they ran out of overs. Dimitri Mascarenhas scored a fine 76 off 72 balls while Dominic Cork almost got them home with a fighting 35 not out.

James was the bowling star for Sussex, with returns of 4/38 off seven overs.

David Hussey cracked 120 runs off 61 balls (6 fours, 10 sixes) and Matthew Wood 91 off 72 balls but rain had the last laugh as Nottinghamshire had to split points with Somerset.

Nottinghamshire scored 247/5 in 26 overs but Somerset’s innings came to an end with at 71/3 in nine over, as the teams ended up with one point each.

Yorkshire scored 199/7 in 37 overs (AW Gale 83, Naved-ul-Hasan 42) and then restricted Durham to 154 in 29.4 overs. Naved claimed 3/44 as Yorkshire won by 13 runs via the Duckworth/Lewis system.

Division 2: Middlesex crushed Surrey by nine wickets in the only match which gave a result in this Division. Surrey scored 213/7 in 40 overs (Michael Brown 57) and then some fine performances in top of the order from Nick Compton (87 not out), Dawid Malan (60) and Owais Shah (57 not out) made sure that Surrey didn’t have a chance.

All the other three matches were abandoned with results and the teams shared points.
